Confusion & Contrast as PAHO and WHO send contradictory messages

January 28, 2022 – In a new confusing Covid Pandemic twist and striking contrast, while PAHO warns not to cancel restrictions, the World Health Organization advised against COVID-19 travel restrictions and mandatory vaccination for entry into countries. The advice was published on the organisation’s website.

“The failure of travel restrictions introduced after the detection and reporting of Omicron variant to limit the international spread of Omicron demonstrates the ineffectiveness of such measures over time,” it said.

WHO added that restrictions will not prevent the international spread of COVID-19, and place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods. It advised countries to lift or ease international travel bans because they do not provide added value and continue contributing to the economic and social stress experienced.
