Canada to give Millions to Haiti announces CARICOM

#Canada, January 28, 2022 – Canada, on Friday January 21 pledged $39 million US dollars in aid to Haiti, in support of the embattled country’s bid to recover amidst increasing instability.

CARICOM Secretary General, Dr Carla Barnett says the crisis in Haiti is deeply concerning and called on international superpowers to strengthen more than just the police and judiciary; so far, Canada has responded.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that In order to address Haiti’s humanitarian needs there has to be focus upon its challenging security situation.

In recent months, missionaries, nuns from the Catholic church and its president have all been victim to the surging violence and discontent of the people of Haiti.

There were other countries which pledged aid to Haiti in the virtual meeting organized by Canada, saying they would join the combined effort to ensure the country had safe and fair elections soon.
