#TheBahamas, December 31, 2021 – Mere days after announcing that public schools will resume in a hybrid format across The Bahamas, the government says it must change course and delay a return to in person learning not just for the public sector, but the private schools and daycare centers too.
This will undoubtedly have a crippling effect, but the Health Minister, Dr Michael Darville said the short push back on the date is necessary. The news came in a press conference on Wednesday.
The Minister in reference to the two week pushback said “It is not in our view a good thing to open school in the middle of a pandemic, so we have decided to wait.”
The Minister of Education Glenys Hanna Martin concurred with Darville saying while it was a tough decision to make, it was best to continue virtually. All schools will be allowed to reopen virtually on January 11th and after the 14 day period a risk assessment will be conducted to determine whether or not face to face classes will return.
Darville said, “We have decided to act with a degree of caution…so that when we do open, we stay open.”
