#TurksandCaicos, December 15, 2021 – The Turks and Caicos Ministry of Health and the TCI Hospital have been diligent in their updates about cases and testing during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the Turks and Caicos Islands celebrates reaching the 80 per cent vaccination mark Magnetic Media looks back at the COVID numbers from the last two weeks as we head into the busy Christmas season.
On the first of December the island had no new infections but was dealing with 40 active cases. Of those no one was hospitalized. The number of deaths from the virus stood at 24.
As the week of December 2nd to 7th progressed there were 11 new infections from the virus. Unfortunately on the 2nd of December one death was recorded bringing the total amount to 25. There were no more deaths during the week.
Hospitalizations remained at zero and 33 people recovered from the virus bringing the total active cases to 11 positives on December 7th.
During the week of December 8 to December 14th, the number of cases were significantly higher. New infections for the week more than doubled standing at 27. Thankfully there were no new deaths from COVID-19 during this period.
One person was hospitalized and there were 7 new recoveries bringing the total number of active cases on the island to 34.
Over the fourteen days since curfew was lifted on December 1st, 1,747 PCR tests were completed, of that 47 new COVID positives were confirmed. The results, though a jump, kept Turks and Caicos at a positivity rate of around 2.6 per cent.
