#TurksandCaicos, December 11, 2021 – FortisTCI is expanding its clean energy program with three more customers set to go solar. The Utility Owned Renewable Energy (UORE) program, which aims to decrease the TCI’s carbon output,  has added the Community Fellowship Centre, The Salvation Army and Long Bay Storage to its roster.

The agreements were signed in September and are set to add 509.6 kilowatt of solar power to the TCI electricity grid. This means the country is a step closer to releasing less than 500 metric tons of C02.

The program works by crediting participants monthly for their rooftop space over a period of 20 years as well as giving them a share of the system production annually.

FortisTCI President and CEO welcomed the newest members and said “The Salvation Army, Community Fellowship Centre and Long Bay Storage…are great examples of how we can achieve more together and minimize our impact on the environment for the greater good.”

FortisTCI maintained that their goal under the Turks and Caicos Resilient National Energy Transition Strategy (R-NETS) is to  have at least 33 per cent of the TCI’s electricity generated by renewable energy by 2040.

Forbes said “We are committed to leading with action and doing our part to ensure that future generations have every opportunity to enjoy this beautiful planet during their lifetimes.”

Construction on the new sites is set to be well underway in the new year.
