#TurksandCaicos, November 13, 2021 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Heritage and the Environment will seek to reinforce an appreciation for all things Turks & Caicos amongst residents by highlighting and celebrating the uniqueness of the destination’s heritage and the fortitude of the local people, while educating and encouraging them to rediscover each Sister Island during its annual observance of Tourism Environmental Awareness Month (TEAM). November is celebrated as Tourism Month in the entire Caribbean region with celebrations occurring under ‘One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean’.

The TEAM theme, ‘Rediscover Turks & Caicos’, was launched in 2020 and has been carried forward into 2021. This ongoing theme highlights the need for both visitors and residents to embrace the Turks and Caicos’ history, heritage and culture in a whole new light. “The Turks and Caicos Islands is proud to be home to some of the most pristine natural environments in the world, and it has remained this way thanks to our government, local businesses, hotels and resorts, and the participation of locals and visitors,” states Hon. Josephine Connolly, Minister with responsibility for tourism and environment.  “We’re excited to observe Tourism Environmental Awareness Month (TEAM) to bring even more awareness to the safeguarding of our environment, and we encourage everyone to join in our robust lineup of events this year.”

Director of Tourism, Pamela Ewing, adds, “Following one of our busiest summers on record and heading into a busy festive season, now is the perfect time to reflect and celebrate the rich heritage and culture of the destination. We invite locals and visitors and explore and appreciate the beauty of our sister islands and their role in making us a world-class destination.”

The Tourism Environmental Awareness Month (TEAM) events will be a combination of virtual and in-person events, these include:

  • Turks and Caicos Islands Tradeshow – Thursday 4th November
  • Live Panel Discussion with Previous Junior Ministers of Tourism – Tuesday 16th November
  • National Community Cleanup and Drive-by Giveaway – Saturday 20th November
  • Stakeholder Appreciation Day – Tuesday 23rd November
  • Sustainable Tourism Symposium – Wednesday 24th November
  • TCHTA Hello Tourist Program – Thursday 25th November
  • South Caicos Destination Spotlight – Friday 26th November

The Tourist Board dedicates this month every year to focus on the local communities and show them what sets destination apart from the rest of region. This time is taken to educate, celebrate and thank local residents and stakeholders for all their hard work and dedication in making the tourism industry successful. The Tourist Board invites everyone to enjoy and participate in the activities, virtual sessions and environmental cleanups and initiatives. The Turks & Caicos is truly ‘Beautiful by Nature’ and we all must play our part in ensuring that it remains so.
