#TurksandCaicos, October 6, 2021 – Once again it took a leak, community members expressing outrage and well placed criticism for Leaders to respond or react. This is a demonstration of leading from BEHIND in the worst way; it is not TRANSPARENCY and it is not PROACTIVITY and instead of engendering public TRUST, this posture, in this case by Police, endangers it!
Magnetic Media, since the fire at Chalk Sound on September 20 has asked more than once for the very information provided in a press release reluctantly issued on the weekend by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.
In it, we get some insight into the fire which had been ruled non-suspicious and into the suspension of an officer.  We also get – yet again – this bitter and biting tone toward those who would have opened the door (albeit without authorization) to the action so the public could see into the Force it finances.
We are asked repeatedly in the statement to trust that information will be forthcoming.  How ironic. Would there be a statement but for the leak of a letter of “leave” circulating on social media?  Many do not think so. How disingenuous for the Police to ask for trust when they repeatedly demonstrate such a disinterest in earning it.
Over the past week, the public has had to endure reports of a Ponzi Scheme allegedly run by  members of the Police; an alleged arsonist police officer (this is not the first fire at Chalk Sound, seemingly over evidence) and Police hierarchy only speaking when the public kicks up a fuss.
Let’s see how criminal trials are impacted by this fire which knocks out operations at the Chalk Sound Station for FOUR MONTHS and let’s see if crucial evidence was tagged in the same way vaccinated Club-goers in TCI have to be.  At least then, if it ends up missing, it can be traced and linked to any criminal who may be disguised as a decent police officer.
Residents have given up hope that despite the changes, manpower support and investments in policing they will ever see the level of integrity and transparency expected of those entrusted to protect and serve.
