#TurksandCaicos, September 13, 2021 – No work has stared on the welcome corridor in Grand Turk for Carnival cruise line guests since the June walking tour, led by Premier Washington Misick.

South Base in Grand Turk still looks dilapidated, perhaps in even worse condition due to the treacherous elements and weather which have torn at the hurricane hit structures even more.  Executives from Carnival Corp flew in for high level talks, the tour and a public meeting in late June.

Also on that tour were Minister of Tourism Josephine Connolly and Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development Akierra Misick.

Minister Misick said the project is a joint effort; that her ministry is not leading on the work required to clean up the unsightly strip.   Hurricane Ike started the damage and Hurricane Irma finished it.  Ike was in 2008.  Irma in 2017.

This past week, Carnival Cruise line announced that it was removing Grand Turk from its cruise itinerary for September.  No surprise there however, TCI has not yet approved for cruise liners to return to Grand Turk amidst the pandemic.

The Leader of the Opposition, Edwin Astwood said another round of stimulus cash should come for Grand Turk and Salt Cay residents because the cruise industry has been out of commission since March 2020, over 18 months now.
