Long-touted Cabinet  shuffle complete; Robinson takes on Budget’s biggest in Ministry of Health

#TurksandCaicos, August 9, 2021 – Hon Jamell Robinson, an All-Island Member of Parliament begins his first day on the job Monday August 9, 2021 as he officially takes office after taking the oath as the TCI’s Minister of Health and Human Services.

At 39-years old, Robinson, who becomes the eighth named minister in the new Progressive National Party Administration, does so with a constitutional override supported by the UK Foreign Development and Commonwealth Office.

The Cabinet shuffle was anticipated and has been touted by the Premier and party leader, Hon Washington Misick.

“I am delighted to report that we have been given the green light and the Minister and FCO in the development office has written to say that the (UK) government has approved the grant of the eighth ministry and it is now working its way through to the Privy Council so that an order in council can be issued and once we received that, that appointment will be made. I am hoping that could be done before the end of June when the budget will be presented,”

It has come somewhat tardy, but still marks a significant milestone for both the Progressive National Party and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

It is a demonstration of trust and respect for the Misick-led administration which has been given a resounding mandate with a 14 to 1 victory at the February 2021 national polls.

“Our constitution is determined by the United Kingdom Government and in fact by the Privy Council, so what has happened is, the ministers or the ministry made a decision or the FCO, but now it has to go to the Privy Council and I think there are steps to get there. Once it has gotten there it is very unlikely that the Privy Council will go against the (UK) government, so what will happen is they will have to issue the Order in Council,” said Premier Washington Misick in a May press conference.

Robinson’s father, mother and wife, along with Party executives and other elected members were on hand for the swearing in on Friday afternoon at the Governor’s Office.

Presenting to him the credentials to take on the portfolio, which has the lion’s share of the National Budget was His Excellency, Nigel Dakin, TCI Governor.
