#TurksandCaicos, July 26, 2021 – Cabinet has approved the license for the land for the new control tower and fire station to support a multi-million dollar upgrade of the Providenciales International Airport.
The project is long overdue and includes government spending of $4.5 million on the control tower building and new parking, plus a security booth. Key to the needed transformation at the PLS is that covered area for arriving and departing passengers.
Premier Washington Misick recently reminded that $1.2 million is set aside for the airside walkway canopy.
Overall, the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority will invest $21.9 million dollars, this fiscal year, into upgrades at the country’s airports. South Caicos gets a huge share $9.4 million will be spent to complete the airport terminal there and includes a temporary facility.
An airport masterplan is also on the drawing board from the TCIAA.
The PNP Administration, over the next 90-days will be considering the development and design concepts the ownership and operational structure and the cost for work to enlarge, in particular the Providenciales International Airport.
