Haiti Food Crises Deepens, Millions of children starve

June 2, 2021 – The Haiti food crises is deepening and the most vulnerable, the children are suffering.  Major news organisations are picking up on the story emanating out of reports that some 4.4 million children in Haiti are starving and that the Coronavirus Pandemic has deepened the crises of malnutrition for these children.

Diptheria, a measles outbreak and a 61 per cent increase in insufficient food in children under five are the grim projections from UNICEF.

UNICEF is now trying to raise $3 million dollars by the end of June to restock the food paste pantry.  UNICEF overall says it will take $49 million a year to meet the humanitarian needs in Haiti.

This news comes amidst joy for some 100,000 Haitians living in the United States, who have been given temporary protected status by President Jo Biden; halting deportations ordered under the previous Trump Administration.

There is also a plea for President Biden to discontinue calls for an election in Haiti; the fear is a lack of response to that request will only lead to more upheaval and instability in the island nation.

These extreme circumstances are closely monitored by Governments in TCI and The Bahamas.  Often, discontent in the Republic sparks a mass exodus of people seeking out a better life in shores nearby.
