#TurksandCaicos, May 25, 2021 – TCI Minister of Minister of Immigration and Border Services, Hon. Arlington Musgrove has promised to improve the ports and docks facility in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
During a Press Conference held on May 17, the Minister outlined various work done during the first 100 days in office, those in progress, and others currently in the works.
“We have completed the installation of CCTVs systems on Grand Turk and on South Caicos. It was important for us to improve surveillance to monitor movements and detect any suspicious activities on these Islands,” said Minister Musgrove in his speech.
Besides the surveillance system, the Hon. Musgrove mentioned his ministry is working on a more modern port with a new roll-on-roll-off facility to improve the quality of service and experience at the South Dock port.
Additionally, the Ministry of Immigration and Border Services had put a welcome center for effective service delivery.
“The people in North Caicos will have a full-function welcome center, and for the first time, be operated by a port manager,” said Hon. Musgrove, who is also the Member of Parliament for the North and Middle Caicos district.
The Minister announced a slew of refurbishment works ongoing at the ports, including in the country’s fishing capital, South Caicos.
“Work has been approved for the rehabilitation work for the South Caicos Port along with the several safety policies and procedures covering areas such as oil spills, containment, and port-based management,” he added.
Back in April 2021, Minister Arlington Musgrove attended a closed-door meeting hosted by the TCI Premier and Carnival Cruise Line. At the session were other high profile government officials, including the Cruise Steering Committee, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ports Authority where plans for expansion to the Grand Turk Cruise Center and enhancements to the tourism experience in the capital were fleshed out.
