#TurksandCaicos, May 19, 2021 – TCI RUBiS Cares has handed over a computer lab to Ashley’s Learning Centre to help students develop computer skills and practice information gathering. The ribbon-cutting ceremony held on May 14 2021 was attended by the Minister of Education, Hon. Rachel Taylor, officials from RUBiS, and other dignitaries.

Ashley’s Learning Centre, which is located near down town Providenciales is home to 25 students who participate in both day and evening programs.  The re-purposed space was refurbished and outfitted by RUBis Bahamas and Turks and Caicos with four computers, a printer, projector and furniture.

Speaking out of excitement on the community support given by the TCI gas company, the Minister for Education emphasized that “It takes a village to raise a child.”

Hon. Taylor praised the philanthropic work done by the TCI RUBiS Cares while also appreciating the company’s unwavering support to the less fortunate in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Referring to the organization’s past community support, the Minister reflected on a time when the company provided free gas to one of the Provo Children’s Home.

“One thing I realized with RUBiS is that they continue to attach themselves with the most vulnerable in our communities. And that’s what makes the difference,” said Hon. Taylor in appreciation of the remarkable work the organization has been committed to.

As a paradigm shift from in-person to technology-based services, the technology room donated by RUBiS will play a critical role in equipping the special students with the on-demand IT skills that go a long way in transforming their lives.

“The use of technology in special education helps to break the barriers for people with disabilities and provides them with access to the most valuable educational programs. Properly designed software and hardware allow students with special needs to get modern education and achieve any required information online,” said Hon. Taylor, alluding to the vitality of the Technology facility.

The Minister added that the special education software simplifies the learning of children with learning challenges caused by brain issues and developmental delay. Also, the Minister of Education emphasized the special software helps to provide individualized learning, unique to every student based upon their level of need.

“This initiative today is a testimony that with partnership with Ashley’s Learning Center, we are winning the fight to provide our special needs children with opportunities that will aid in their learning,” said Taylor while applauding RUBiS’ efforts.

Hon. Taylor also promised the government would do all within its capacity to lend necessary support to Ashley’s Learning Centre.
