#TurksandCaicos, May 24, 2021 – Local contractors in the island of Grand Turk are much better acquainted with what it takes to best position themselves for the $20 Million in construction works to be commissioned by the Turks and Caicos Islands Government within the new fiscal year.

A lot of information was shared with the 58 registered attendees, 10 walk-ins and people joined virtually at the first ever Contractors’ Summit hosted by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development (PPID); session one was in Grand Turk.

Hon Akierra Missick, Minister for PPID, following the first day Summit on Tuesday May 18 said it is obvious that more of this type of forum must happen and her early thoughts are to get the Center for Entrepreneurial Development or the CED involved.  She believes more workshops on a smaller scale would work to ensure local contractors are aware of the process of bidding for capital works projects.

The session in Grand Turk also helped the Government team to get a truer sense of what the industry really identifies as valuable information; that newfound understanding would influence, said Minister Missick what was presented in Providenciales when the second day of the Contractors’ Summit is hosted at the Gus Lightbourne Gym.

Providenciales was classified as over-subscribed and to ensure everyone who wants to be in the room virtually can do so, the bandwidth will be boosted, said Hon Missick.

The Contractors’ Summit in Grand Turk was moderated by Hon Jamell Robinson and in attendance were Ministers Otis Morris and Arlington Musgrove; shadow to the minister, Hon Kyle Knowles was also at the meeting which was held at Yellowman and Sons.
