#TurksandCaicos, May 9, 2021 – Wednesday May 5th was a day where a potentially huge fire was contained at Sea View Cafe, Conch Bar, Middle Caicos. The wind was intense after someone had started a brush/ garbage fire. It spread to the west with rapid force and flames licking the dry brush quickly.

Steve Posthumus, of AR3C Construction (formerly known as Ephraim Construction) was on site quickly after smelling smoke, and assessing the situation, got the company water truck which had water in the tank and was immediately brought to the site. Steve’s partner, Mike Terry was called to help. Mike, who is a professionally trained fire-fighter, arrived to assist in putting out the stubborn fire.

Steve watered ahead of the fire and then returned for a second load of water from a nearby tank. Mike’s arrival brought the company work crew, and they helped Steve work the hoses to contain what was left of the fire, in quick order.

Mike walked the site to check for hot spots long after the flames had been extinguished, and the crew watered down any hot spots.   The home of Sarah Kaufman was saved and possibly a few others that were in the corridor to the west.

Much of the open bush area was prevented from catching fire along the coast line.

Thank you to the helpful hands that went to douse the flames.

Thank you to the men that were quick responders especially “thank you” to AR3C Construction.

Homes in need of water have been supplied by this company for many years. The people in Conch Bar and surrounding towns have seen Steve and Mike drive by many times to deliver what was needed when it was needed.

During hurricane season these men have been on standby to assist in situations too numerous to mention.

Just ask the Conch Bar community and Middle Caicos friends.
