TurksandCaicos, May 3, 2021 – Mario Rigby, Eco Explorer who has already crossed the continent of Africa in a solo exploit on foot began the Caicos Challenge on Friday, April 30 in a kayak leg from Salt Cay to Grand Turk. Saturday morning, he slid into the kayak again for a voyage over 40k, which he labelled the most dangerous part of the expedition expected to span up to six days.

His team informed that Friday evening meant lots and lots of rest and lots and lots of carbs for the paddle cutting through the Turks Island Passage. To give perspective on the distance Mario Rigby crossed on the open Atlantic ocean; Providenciales is recorded as being 23 miles long, the distance from Grand Turk to South Caicos is 25 miles.
Photos of Mario Rigby’s progress were shared; he trimmed a significant amount of time off the 40km leg; beating his estimation by over two hours. A fantastic feat for Rigby who hails from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos and is also a citizen of Canada.
