TCI: Minimum 30 Years to serve before Parole for Murder Convicted, Isma

#TurksandCaicos, April 29, 2021 – Jumillo Isma was on Wednesday (April 28) dealt a major blow as Grand Turk Supreme Court jury handed him a life with a minimum of 30 years to serve before any chance of parole and 408 days to put toward his time currently in custody.

Isma, who was on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, found guilty of murder in the Grand Turk Supreme Court for the death of 22-year-old Godly Petiote on March 11, 2020, along Cherokee Road Providenciales was finally served at least 30 years behind bars as justice took its course. 

The 23-year-old Isma of Five Cays Providenciales was arrested on Saturday, March 14, 2020, based on the excellent investigative and forensic work by the TCI Serious Crimes Unit and the Forensic Support Unit following the March 11 deadly shootout. 

He was later charged for Murder, Carrying Firearm, Carrying Ammunition, Discharging Firearm, and Discharging Ammunition in connection with the death of Godly Petiote and remanded, awaiting the determination of his case on April 28, 2021. 

According to reports from the Police Control Room, a man received multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at around 11:30 a.m. while en route to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in a private vehicle. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the chilling incident, the Serious Crimes Unit and The Forensic Support Unit immediately launched a manhunt for the assassin and murder investigation to establish the person responsible for the tragic shooting, leading to the arrest of Jumillo Isma. 

In closing the sentencing hearing in the courtroom of Justice Shiraz Aziz; Superintendent Lisa Mitcheson, Head of Crime and Public Protection in the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force said, ‘while there is a sigh of relief for justice-well-served in this traumatic case, we’d wish to extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Godly Petiote, whose life was unjustifiably cut short at a young age.’
