#TurksandCaicos, April 7, 2021 – Immigration Officers from across the Ministry of Immigration, Citizenship, Labour and Employment Services have successfully completed a ten-day period of intensive operational enforcement training.

A total of nineteen officers completed the course, delivered by UK Home Office in partnership with TCI’s Immigration Taskforce, held at Graceway Sports Centre from the 22nd to 31st March 2021.  The training included refreshing techniques and tactical skills, first aid, intelligence, searching and seizing, enhanced communication, and Officers undertook both written tests and operational drills.

Senior Officer (Acting) Bjorn Griffith, who co-delivered the course, said; “This course was designed to be challenging and a great opportunity for our Taskforce Officers to test their skills under pressure.  I look forward to continuing to support the development of our Immigration Taskforce and to delivering further training in the future.”

Permanent Secretary, Desmond Wilson, visited a number of the training sessions during the two weeks and, in closing the training event, said; “This is the latest step in professionalizing our immigration services and I am proud to witness our Officers demonstrate their skills to this level.  I’m grateful to our UK colleagues for delivering this course and in particular to Senior Officer Griffith from our own Taskforce unit for his support in co-delivering the training sessions.”

Minister for Immigration, Hon. Arlington Musgrove remarked; “Our Taskforce Officers are out enforcing immigration laws in our communities every day.  It’s critical they keep their skills sharp and they are ready to deal with what they find, be that a criminal, an immigration offender or a vulnerable person.  If you are in the Turks and Caicos Islands illegally then you should leave now – if you don’t, our Officers will locate you, detain you and repatriate you.”
