TCI: COVID-19 Update by the Numbers

#TurksandCaicos, April 17, 2021 – In the past fifteen days, Turks and Caicos has had eight days of zero new cases of Covid-19 infections however on four of those days there had been no PCR tests performed. 

The biggest testing day was reflected in the April 7 dashboard when 94 samples were checked; all were clean for Covid-19. In 15 days, the National Public Health Lab has conducted 488 PCR tests, which is significantly below its testing capacity.  Still, TCI emerges with only 7.5 percent of those tests coming back with a positive for the coronavirus. 

Eight new cases was the biggest single day recorded this month, so far, that was in the April 9 dashboard; only 36 new cases of Covid-19 are charted between April 1 and April 15. 

Today, TCI is at 58 active cases of the coronavirus; Provo with 52, North Caicos with four, South Caicos back down to one and Grand Turk, also down to one active case. 

Two people are hospitalised and that fact has maintained most of April, there are 518 in some sort of isolation at this time.  While we are still not getting information on what the number of positives are on the antigen tests, which are being taken mainly by visitors to Turks and Caicos, for the first half of April 13,049 rapid tests were performed.   

In an update on the Covid-19 Vaccine Roll-Out, the new information exposed 15,039 people had received their first dose of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine; the count was to April 11, 2021.

The previous vaccination dashboard – up to March 28, 2021 – reflected 13,841 people had a first jab.

The Ministry of Health informed that the number of people vaccinated grew by 1,198 in 11 days; an average rate of vaccinations of 108 people per day.
