2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predictions

#TurksandCaicos, April 9, 2021 – On Thursday, April 08 2021 researchers at Colorado State University (CSU) released their predictions for the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season as an “Above Average,” with seventeen (17) named storms and eight (8) hurricanes.  Of the eight hurricanes, four (4) are expected to be major, according to the researchers at CSU.

According to Dr Philip Klotzbach, the primary reason for the above-average forecast is based on a predicted lack of El Nino and a warmer than normal subtropical Atlantic. As is the case with all hurricane seasons, residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands are reminded that it only takes one storm to make it an active season. Keep in mind that even a weak tropical storm impacting the Turks and Caicos Islands can cause major impacts, particularly if it moves slowly and rainfall triggers flooding.

The Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies would like to encourage residents to take proactive steps to ensure that their homes, businesses and families are well prepared for this year’s hurricane season. We all have to prepare the same for every season, regardless of how much activity is predicted.
