TCI Police give women ‘Royal’ Treatment in Virtual Celebration of Int’l Women’s Day

#TurksandCaicos, March 17, 2021 – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) hosted a webinar celebrating women in Policing on Saturday, March 6th 2021, under the theme, Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future.

The virtual event coordinated by the Office of Commissioner of Police had a focused discussion on women’s success and challenges in law and enforcement, professionalism on and off the job, emphasising the RTCIPF Codes of Ethics, Health and Wellness and the Intentional you, choosing to make decisions and take action on what’s really important.

The virtual exchange also highlighted the important leadership roles women play in the Turks and Caicos Islands in all industries and government. The Keynote speakers included Madam Justice Mabel Agyeman, Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Superintendent Lisa Mitcheson, Head of Crime and Public Protection – RTCIPF, Nutritionist Tamika Handfield, International Speaker Sheba Wilson, International Coach Yolande Robinson and Physician Dr Dawn O’Sullivan.

Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said, “The Force Executive will continue to identify and remove barriers to employment and promotion for women in Policing. We have always tried to ensure that women see policing as a legitimate career option so that our organisation reflects the community we serve. Although there is still much work to be done, female officers span all levels of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, from Senior Management (Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent), Inspectors and Sergeants, and specialist positions to frontline patrols. We plan to build on this and provide opportunities for further advancement.”

The week-long celebration of women in the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force began on March 1st 2021, with the support of our partners, Yoshis Sushi Bar, Graceway Supermarkets, Jais Jewelers, Baci Ristorante, Wymara Resort and Villas, Flow, Digicel, Renau Destine Photography, Chinson’s Grill Shack, Brilliant Studios, The Hartling Group, Grace Bay Resorts, and Le Bouchon Du Village who were featured in daily trivia games.

The celebration also included a one-minute video challenge for female officers to illustrate, ‘What do you think could be done to improve women’s advancement within the RTCIPF?’ Constable Breyada Howell won the challenge and received a family Photo-shoot courtesy of Renau Destine Photography. Sergeant Myrtha Payen, received a gift certificate courtesy of Jais Jewelers and Sergeant Latoya Rigby, won the third prize, a lunch for two courtesy of Wymara Resort and Villas.
