TCI: COVID-19 cases identified at Eliza Basden Aged Care and Special Needs Center in South Caicos

PRESS RELEASE (March 27, 2021) –The Ministry of Health wishes to advise the general public that positive cases of COVID-19 have been identified at the Eliza Basden Aged Care and Special Needs Center, South Caicos. The Center has since been deep cleaned and sanitized and the COVID-19 protocols activated. All registered next of kin have been notified and are being updated on a daily basis on the status of their loved ones.  All clients of the Center have received their first vaccination and are being monitored and observed closely.

The Center continues with its weekly testing of clients and staff and the wellbeing of all staff and clients is being monitored.  Staff continues to practice established Infection Prevention and Control measures including the proper donning and doffing of PPEs, hand hygiene and santisation of the facility. Additional staffing and all of the necessary PPEs are in place for the ongoing response.  Staff continues to provide optimum care to their clients.

Contact tracing has commenced and is ongoing by the Public Health Team inclusive of both staff and clients. 

The general public is reminded to;

Ø  Comply with the control measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19

Ø  Be aware of the symptoms and signs of COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, fever, diarrhea, loss of smell/taste)

Ø  Stay home if you are unwell and call the Health Hotlines on 333 0911 or 232 9444

Ø  Wear face coverings in public

Ø  Maintain social distancing of 6 feet from other persons

Ø  Cover your cough/sneeze with your elbow or disposable napkin

Ø  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water and use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available

Ø  Do not discriminate against persons who are suspected of having Covid-19

Ø  Register for the vaccine or join us on Friday 26th March 2021 for National Vaccination Day where persons are encouraged to walk in to their local health care facilities throughout the TCI for the COVID19 vaccine

Ø  Get tested on a regular basis for free at community testing venues throughout the TCI
