#TurksandCaicos, March 20, 2021 – Three members of one family have been taken by Covid-19 and relatives of Sargeant Carl Lightbourne say the losses have not been easy, not easy at all for the close knit clan.
The country’s first
coronavirus death, Dudley Lightbourne was brother to the officer, whom
Acting Police Commissioner Rodney Adams
said was a terrific friend and 33-year member of the Royal Turks and Caicos
islands Police Force.
“Sergeant Lightbourne
had an easy-going personality and conducted himself as a true professional. He was passionate about music and was one of
the founding members of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Combo
Band, where he remained a member for many years.”
“Lighty” as he was
affectionately called was last weekend medically evacuated to the US for care
after coronavirus symptoms worsened his health; the country lost him on Tuesday
night; he was just 55 years old.
Acting Police Commissioner Adams in a media statement issued on Wednesday said: “We ask that everyone keep his wife, children, other family members and friends in your prayers. To lose his life at an age with much more to offer is truly heart-breaking, and my deepest thoughts and sympathies are with all who knew him”.
