TCI: ELLINGTON BEEN CHARGED AND REMANDED FOR FIREARM OFFENCES

#TurksandCaicos, March 25, 2021 – Officers of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have charged 25-year-old Ellington Been.

The charges of Discharging a Firearm, Wounding and Possession of Imitation Firearm with intent to cause Fear were laid on Monday, March 22, 2021.

His arrest and charge came after a shooting incident reported to Police on Saturday, February 20th,2021, in Providenciales.

Mr Been appeared in court on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021, and was remanded in custody until a sufficiency hearing on May 7th, 2021.

Head of Crime and Public Protection, Superintendent Lisa Mitcheson, said, “This was a shooting during which the victim was lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries. We want to continue to appeal to the public to give us information. We need to locate these firearms and take them off the street.
