#TurksandCaicos, February 22, 2021 – On election day, Turks and Caicos lost one of its senior citizens to Covid-19 marking the 14th death for the UK overseas territory.
“An elderly patient with known confirmed
COVID-19 disease passed away at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre on Friday
February 19, 2021. The patient was under
isolation and clinical management at the hospital in a critically ill state,”
informed a statement issued around 7 p.m. Friday by the TCI Hospitals.
Eight people have died from COVID now in
Turks and Caicos, including an American woman en route to New York from the
Dominican Republic, brought into country via emergency landing on Sunday
February 14.
Between Thursday February 18 and Sunday
February 22, there have been a dismal 101 new infections recorded in the Turks
and Caicos Islands. There were 56
positives reported on Thursday; another 14 reported on Friday; 30 new
infections on Saturday and one positive was reflected in the dashboard on
Sunday.
Providenciales charted 75 of the new cases
of the coronavirus. Grand Turk has 22
new COVID patients, according the situation report and Parrot Cay is back on
the board with two cases confirmed since Friday.
Recoveries were high; 93 individuals were
classified as recovered from the coronavirus.
There were 231 tests performed (cumulatively)
by the National Public Health laboratory; 44 percent of tests came back with
positives for Covid-19.
Up to Sunday, 812 people were in some kind
of isolation as a result of contact tracing.
There are 292 active cases of COVID; the
TCI having recoded 2,029 positives for the virus since the start of the
pandemic.
