Coral Harbour Base, 19 December, 2019 – Bahamas – The Supply Department of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) recently reached out to the western district of the capital on December 13th by providing residents with hot breakfast and essential items.

Leading the initiative was Senior Lieutenant Elvis Bullard, the Assistant Base Supply Officer.  He, along with his staff took to the Gambier Community and served hot breakfast and distributed an assortment of essential goods to the residents.

A make shift site was setup on the grounds of the Gambier Primary School, where the residents were served. Additionally, meals and “care packs” were delivered to those with physical disability and elderly residents of the community.

Chief Petty Officer Paulette Higgs, who coordinated similar efforts in 2018, was pleased with the response and cooperation of the department.

“This year, we added a personal care package for the residents, especially those who are convalesced and we also gave gifts to the children of Gambier Community,” said CPO Higgs. “We are happy to come here each year and put smiles on faces. This is a team effort with the cooperation of the entire Supply Department and the Command of the Defence Force whereas, we were to able make somebody’s day brighter.”

The marines were also happy to sing a happy birthday chorus to 82-year-old Ruthmae Poitier, who celebrated her birthday on December 13th.

The RBDF has engaged in various annual community projects throughout the year. The organization has partnered with the Gambier Primary School with several initiatives in the past years, and it hopes to continue the bond of friendship with both the school and the community.
