Coral Harbour Base, November 12, 2019 – Bahamas – Eight personnel from the Pilot Bus Unification Project are better equipped to render medical assistance to those in need after recently completing the American Heart Association First Aid and CPR Training by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s Medical Center Instructors.
Led
by Petty Officer Terrance Arnette and Leading Woman Marine Tiffany Forbes, the
course was conducted at the former Road Traffic Department, West Bay Street on
Thursday November 7th 2019. It was designed to help participants
preserve life until the patient receives higher medical attention.
Modules
included Medical Emergency, Injury Emergency and Environmental Emergency with
topics such as External Bleeding and Treatment of various types of Wounds,
Treating Strokes, Heart Attack, Choking and Seizures.
Led
by Project Manager Marvin Clarke, the workshop comprised of bus drivers and
dispatchers, whose duties allow them to interact daily with the general public.
The First Aid class is one of several workshops in which the participants are
gaining knowledge and experience.
Emitte
Bootle, a participant said that the course was “excellent because although I
did a similar course 10 years ago, some of the information are new to me, which
I can use in my daily life”, said Bootle. “I have a daughter who is a doctor,
and she is always encouraging me to stay current with my First Aid lessons, so
I am glad I was able to do this workshop”.
