TCI: Week one of Crime Fighting Road Checks

#Providenciales, October 5, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Despite the inclement weather, over the past week Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force were on the roadways with the intention of targeting vehicles without rear license plates as mandated by law.

Following the completion of week one, Commissioner of Police Mr. Trevor Botting said, “The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is committed to building relationships with community members while providing
the highest level of service to keep our citizens safe.

We will continue to provide and share our on-going efforts with the community in order to maintain and build public trust. Over the last few months, there has
been tremendous growth within the organization with a new Executive Team, placing emphasis on dealing with Serious Crime and enhancing our engagement with the community.

It was previously announced that on October 1st, 2019 we plan to crack down on the number of vehicles on
the roadways without ID plates. Our efforts resulted in 57 Traffic tickets issued to persons driving without ID plates and 48 tickets were given for other traffic violations. Additionally, 45 undocumented persons were
detained and handed over to Immigration Officials and 16 vehicles were abandoned. For Clarity, this operation is not to target motorist in isolation, but to ensure compliance with the law and help us with our wider crime-fighting efforts”.

It is an Offence to drive a vehicle without an ID plate; doing so comes with a maximum penalty of $US300.00.
