TCI signs MOU with Fortis, Clinton Foundation for Climate change and assisted by Rocky Mountain institute

#Providenciales, October 23, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Today the Turks and Caicos signed a MOU with Fortis, Clinton Foundation for Climate change and assisted by Rocky Mountain institute. This is huge milestone for the Turks and Caicos.

TCIG is committed to developing a clean energy future for Turks and Caicos Islands that will decrease the islands’ reliance on imported fossil fuel, reduce the cost of electricity for households and businesses, and demonstrate the country’s willingness to play a lead role in efforts to combat climate change.

This Agreement represents the first step towards that goal. As set forth in Section 5 below, subsequent agreements detailing specific projects, scopes of work, and time-frames under this Agreement will be agreed to in writing by the Foundation and at least one of the other parties, as appropriate for the specified project, and attached as addenda to this Agreement.

1. Goal Commitments. The Parties agree to make use of their respective resources to:

a. Work collaboratively to advance sustainable and resilient energy projects in the Turks and Caicos Islands, which may include large-scale renewable energy projects, microgrids, energy efficiency, capacity-building, or other projects;

b. Utilize the analysis and recommendations proposed by the Turks and Caicos Resilient National Energy Transition Strategy (R-NETS), completed in 2019 by TCIG, FortisTCI, and the Rocky Mountain Institute;

c. Promote the development of a series of projects to be implemented by the Turks and Caicos Islands which will reduce the islands’ dependency on fossil fuels.
