TCI: Premier and Minister of Finance attends World Social Security Forum in Brussels

#Providenciales, October 24, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The World Social Security Forum took place in Brussels, Belgium, from 14 to 18 October 2019. It was hosted by the public social security institutions of Belgium. The Premier and Minister for Finance, Investment and Trade Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson attended the four (4) day meeting in Belgium which addressed key issues and challenges facing social security and included sessions on innovative strategies in social security administration.

The World Social Security Forum was a unique opportunity to:

·       Meet international organizations, Ministers, government agencies and institutions

·       Network with over 1,000 senior managers, professionals and experts

·       Share experiences, identify challenges, and explore innovative solutions

·       Engage in shaping the future of social security

·       Learn about ISSA professional standards and member services

There were also featured presentations on Good Governance; Analysing Social Security Data; Error, Evasion and Fraud in Social Security Systems related to Health Guidelines and Service Quality. The World Social Security Forum showcased and debated how social security institutions, through their efforts to achieve excellence and through investing in innovation, play a crucial role in protecting people in a dynamic world.

Premier Robinson commenting on her attendance at the forum stated, “This is a unique opportunity to learn from innovative practices, and also to create valuable relationships with key stakeholders from around the world. The Turks and Caicos Islands has always upheld strict compliance with international standards and best practices and in doing so have solidified our position as a country that is a key player in the region and in the world. Attending this forum shows TCI’s commitment to upgrading its social safety-net systems across the board. It was a privilege to hear from some of the leading stakeholders in the Social Security Industry and to hear their tried and improved strategies for good governance and service delivery in their various countries; indeed, it has been an enlightening experience, one that will help to form our own decision making processes here in the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

The Forum was the largest international event for social security. Involving more than 1,000 participants, from more than 150 countries, including ministers, administrators, CEOs and senior managers in social security administration. It provided unparalleled source of exclusive networking, knowledge and inspiration for International Social Security Association (ISSA) member organizations.

The ISSA is the world’s leading international organization for social security institutions, government departments and agencies and promotes excellence in social security administration through professional guidelines, expert knowledge, services and support to enable its members to develop dynamic social security systems and policy throughout the world.
