#Providenciales, October 18, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Today the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation (CWCF) in collaboration with Flow and the Ministry of Education handed over to the Eliza Simons Primary School, a new digitally enabled interactive e-learning classroom with touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity. The lab is outfitted with a total of twenty (20) flip design touchscreen Thinkpad laptops, ten (10) Epson Powerlite projectors, and two (2) Hitachi interactive whiteboards.

The generous gift comes as a result of a decision taken by the Foundation in April 2018,  to donate US$30,000 to aid in the refurbishment of the Eliza Simons Primary computer and math lab, which were destroyed along with the entire facility after the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.

Audley Gibbs, Acting Country Manager, Flow Turks & Caicos, said: “For many years Flow TCI has contributed to the development of our young people through the provision of scholarships for secondary education, FREE high speed internet services to all public schools throughout the islands, and now Information Communication and Techonology (ICT) tools which can be used to improve teaching and learning.”

During today’s handover ceremony students from the Eliza Simons Primary performed a special tribute to say thank you to CWCF/Flow for their generosity. Principal of Eliza Simons, Mrs Juliet Thelwell, along with Minister of Education, Hon. Karen Malcolm, joined in saying thank you to Flow for their investment towards educational advancement in TCI.

“Flow as a telecommunications provider has recognized the importance of incorporating technology within our education system to see to it that our students succeed,” stated Minister of Education, Hon. Karen Malcolm.

Vice Principal, Nyree Williams added that: “Having these resources at our disposal will now put the school closer to our destination of becoming the model primary school for technology in the TCI and leaders in technology, science and innovative education.”

The Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation was set up by C&W Communications initially as a response to the humanitarian crisis caused during the devastating hurricane season of  2017.

Since then, the Foundation has expanded its mission to not only helping to build more resilient communities but to also focus on enabling progress through technology and entrepreneurial and other training programs.

ICT Officer within the Ministry of Education, Patterson Williams remarked: “These donations fall in line with our education sector plan which speaks to the infusion of ICT across the entire education sector. When I look at the quality of the equipment, it is top notch and it causes me to re-evaulute our focus in terms of standardization. This goes a long way in creating a positive environment where our kids can learn and a relatively hi-tech environment. These are the things that are needed in education.”

This is the first of two presentations being made by the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation as part of a larger disbursement to the Ministry of Education to further inspire learning and the advancement of education.
