TCI: Independent probe launched into Police Involved Shooting
#Providenciales, September 24, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – “I would like to advise the public that an independent investigation has been launched today, following the officer involved shooting that took place on Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 and Daniel Been Jr. died.
We have a duty to ensure that the circumstances are properly investigated and as standard protocol in any officer -involved shooting with a force firearm, an independent investigation will take place. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service will lead the investigation and a team of Officers arrived in the Turks and Caicos Islands today, September 23rd, 2019 to undertake this role.
Being accountable and transparent are crucial as we build trust and confidence throughout the communities we serve and this independent investigation will provide just that in response to this incident.
