TCI: Crack Down on Vehicles Without Plates

#Providenciales, September 24, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) intends to crack down on the number of vehicles on the roadway that do not have a rear license plate as mandated by law. The public will have until September 30th, 2019 to legalize their vehicles. This crackdown comes on the heel of an increase in stolen vehicles, specifically on the Island of Providenciales and to assist identifying vehicles that may be used in crimes.

Commissioner Trevor Botting said, “This is a crime fighting initiative and not to penalize the motoring public. I am happy to report that the Department of Road Safety are currently issuing plates so there is now no excuse not to display a correct plate for your vehicle. We have discovered many crimes being captured on CCTV and the vehicles used in the crimes are not displaying license plates to avoid detection. The public is advised that this effort by my officers only demonstrate our commitment to your safety and your cooperation will be appreciated”.

The public is reminded that it is an Offence to Drive a vehicle without an ID plate; doing so comes with a maximum penalty of $US300.00.

The RTCIPF is asking everyone to please display their license plates on their vehicles. Individuals who have purchased a new or used vehicle should visit the Department of Road Safety to avoid being cited.
