TCI: 20 new officers to be recruited to RTCIPF

#Providenciales, September 24, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting has welcomed The Premier’s recent announcement of the provision of funding to recruit twenty new Police Constables.

The Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands has committed an extra $US500,000.00 of funding to increase police numbers and Commissioner Botting says he is optimistic the Country will benefit,“The Force Executive Team and the various department heads of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are very pleased with this development. These twenty future Police Constables will join more than 277 Officers currently on the Force. We are hoping to receive a large number of local applicants who will be given preference, but we are open to hiring outside of the territory”.

The recruitment drive will start today, September 23rd, 2019 to end on October 15th 2019. The twenty new recruits will receive basic training locally before commencing their training at The Regional Police Training Centre (RPTC) in Barbados. Commissioner Botting said, “Initially, we have had an agreement with the Bahamas Police Training College, however, due to the catastrophic Hurricane Dorian, they were unable to accommodate us. We are currently finalizing discussions with our colleagues in Barbados.

In the past, we’ve sent our recruits to the Regional Police Training Centre (RPTC) in Barbados, up until the year 2001 and we have received some of the best officers through this training program. This is the most important announcement we’ve had for the year and the twenty new trained officers will make a fundamental difference. I look forward to welcoming them to the Force as they embark on their new careers serving the communities of the Turks and Caicos Islands”.

The 26 week programme will seek to equip entrants to policing with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to function competently as police constables in general, Beat and Patrol duties, provide employability core skills, Introduce the recruits to the history, mission and organisation of policing, inculcate habits of fitness and safety, develop recruits’ personal character and mental fitness, and enhancing the professionalisation of police training in keeping with global trends.
