#Nassau, September 21, 2019 – Bahamas – Additional members of our local Abaco teams have been cleared to return to the island and eight of the Distribution team members are now on island assisting with the restoration effort.
As indicated we are working in
the South of Abaco. Our New Providence team is continuing work on the main
lines headed south from the Wilson City Power Station towards Sandy Point. The
Abaco teams are working within the settlements and towns headed south to make
sure they are ready to receive power once the main lines are energized.
Winding Bay and Cherokee will be
the first areas as we make our way south. The local teams will also continue
assessments in the Cays so that plans can be concluded to begin restoration in
those areas.
BPL is committed to restoring our
systems in Abaco in the shortest possible time. We are focusing immediately on
the south since the area was not hit as hard by Hurricane Dorian, and therefore
our customers in the area can be brought back online more quickly. Our Wilson
City Power Station site will be used to make this happen.
We are also beginning
preparations to bring in additional teams and equipment including temporary
generators to begin restoration in the north. Safety and the environment are
our primary priorities.
We will bring additional resources to bear as soon as possible to meet our commitment to bring power back to our customers!
