TCI: Ministry of Tourism, Environment, Heritage, Maritime, Gaming & Disaster Management – Drowning Incident at Middle Caicos

Grand Turk, August 5, 2019 – Turks and Caicos Islands – The Ministry of Tourism and by extension the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board is saddened by reports of a drowning incident on the island of Middle Caicos involving visitors to the island.

The Ministry is aware of two deaths; however, the identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of next of kin.  Additionally, there is an ongoing search and rescue by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Force for an adult male.  

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has confirmed that a report was made concerning a drowning related death that occurred on the island of Middle Caicos. This matter is under investigation by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force therefore the Ministry cannot release any further details at this time.  

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ralph Higgs stated that “As a leading beach destination many come to our shores to enjoy it and we are saddened whenever incidents of this nature occurs.  On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism I extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and assure them of the country’s prayers and support”. 

The Ministry of Tourism, and the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board in particular, will continue to offer assistance to the family in any way possible as we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the grieving family.
