#Providenciales, August 22, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Employment Service Department and the Ministry of Immigration, Citizenship, Labour and Employment Service extends congratulations to Mr. Dexter Moore, Mrs. Jatana Williams-Hamilton, Ms. Prenell Dean and Mrs. Jacqueline Astwood-Warrican, on the successful completion of their E-Learning Course on Labour Inspection. The four Civil Servants, all employed as Labour Inspectors within the Employment Services Department, participated in a E-Learning Course on Labour Inspection which was conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Training Centre. The training was identified as part of the department’s goals in ensuring full integration of international labour standards in the exercise of work place inspections.
The eight-week course which commenced
on the 6th May and concluded on the 28th June,
2019, consisted of seven (7) modules including Introduction to labour
Inspection, Principles, Functions and Main Characteristics, Strategies of
Compliance, Inspection of Working Conditions, Inspection of the Employment
Relationship, Inspection of Occupational Safety and Health, Labour Inspection
Visits and Tools for Labour Inspections. The inspectors were required to
complete seven (7) written assignments, along with exams, after each module in
order to demonstrate their level of knowledge acquired.
The Commissioner of Labour, and Head of the Department of Employment Services, Mr. Edwin Taylor, commented;“I am extremely proud of the inspectors, and their diligence in completing the course. The dialogue during their training showed just how much of an impact the course was having on their skills development, and I am confident that the knowledge gained will be utilized for the benefit of the unit. This much needed exposure to international standards will help in the development of future policies for the department, and can only have a positive impact moving forward.”
This training was the first in a series of employee development exercises that are planned throughout the Ministry for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
