Middle Caicos drown victims buried over the weekend

#Providenciales, August 26, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – An online video tribute tells the story of a lovely life for Texas husband and wife, Roy and Irma Perez; the pair along with a friend drowned in a freak incident on Bambarra Beach in Middle Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands on Monday August 5, 2019.

The group of five: the three adults and two teenaged girls was on a day trip from Providenciales to the island of Middle Caicos which is famous for its underground caves, slave trails, beach-hugging cliffs and pristine deserted beaches.

A quick rising tide and a strong current are suspected to have caught the trio off guard.  Turks and Caicos Police have not yet released the official cause of death, but the matter is described as a drowning. 

The body of nurse, Irma Barrera-Perez was discovered first, on shore.  After an all-day search was launched, the second body of Dr. Richard Okoloise was found.  Early the following day, with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard added, the search resumed for the one missing person.  District Commissioner for Middle Caicos, Frederick Johnson found that third body; it was Roy Perez.

The disaster shocked Turks and Caicos residents and the scope of the tragedy grabbed international media attention.  Heartbreaking for all involved, that a day which started out so right, could end with things going so tragically wrong.

One news report informed that a GoFundMe account had been set up in order to embalm and transport the bodies of the drowning victims back home to Texas.

Magnetic Media has found that the funeral service for the couple was held on Friday August 23, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, Texas.

Roy Daniel Perez, a 38-year old businessman and his wife, Irma Isabelle Barrera-Perez, a 33-year old nurse had three daughters: Angela, Danika, and Kate.  The eldest girl was on the trip to Turks and Caicos with her parents.

Magnetic Media was unable to find any information about Dr. Richard Okoloise’s funeral.

The obituary for Roy and Irma Perez, which was published online said the couple would be reunited for the funeral mass and the burial; burial was at Restwood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson, Texas.
