#Providenciales, August 28, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Beaches
Resorts, The Sandals Foundation in partnership with TCI Paint and Supply has
completed a beautification project for the Ianthe Pratt Primary School (IPPS)
in preparation for the new academic year.
Described
as a “massive undertaking” by the Foundation, the project consisted of painting
interior and exterior areas of the school, bathrooms and a computer room. Over
100 Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort volunteers rolled up their sleeves and
teamed up to paint, clean, and restore classrooms for the school’s 586 students.
IPPS
Principal, Neekimo King, said the school is grateful for the intervention. “I
know the staff will be quite excited to come back to their classrooms to see
they are ready. Our teachers are the ones usually doing the painting but I know
this time it’s a burden that’s been lifted off their shoulders.”
The
two week project consisted of resort employees and interns working alongside
professionals who did the finishing work.
Minister
of Education Hon. Karen Malcolm thanked the Sandals Foundation and ER
construction for refurbishing the IPPS, “The kids are our future and we are to
ensure they are in comfortable condition. Thank you to the sponsors, thank you
to the volunteers and we know when the students return they will be in a clean,
comfortable environment. Thank you very much.”
Owner
of TCI Paint and Supply, Brenton Berry said he jumped at the opportunity to be
part of the project, “When Sandals Foundation reached out, I immediately said
yes because I believed in this project. This is a prideful moment but it’s also
humbling to be a part of this. The children are our future and we have to take
care of them.”
Project
Manager, Beaches Turks and Caicos, Wendy Fae Rodriguez, said it was an honour
to make the initiative a reality. “This gives me great pride to be a part of
this project and the Sandals Foundation. To see what we are doing here for our
community, and our future leaders and the role we are playing in this project.
I’m extremely proud.”
This the second project
executed by the Sandals Foundation to create a clean, hygienic, safe and
inspirational space for children at IPPS. Last year, over 100 international
bloggers and media personalities were brought in to help enhance the school
grounds.
The
works form part of the Foundation’s investment in the educational development
of the regions in which it operates. As part of that continued investment, the
Foundation also announced plans for a major back-to-school event on Friday,
August 30th at the
Bight Basketball court.
