BAHAMAS: BPL Daily Fact Sheet

#Nassau, August 30, 2019 – Bahamas – Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) continues its focused efforts to return two units at the Blue Hills Power Station (BHPS) to service. The two units total 44 megawatts, which more than makes up the generation deficit we face during peak energy consumption hours. We also remain vigilant regarding Hurricane Dorian, currently a Category Three hurricane which could potentially grow to Category Four within the next few days. We are carefully watching the path of the storm, since the weather could play a major role in the repair timetable for these outdoor units.

Meanwhile, the additional specialist about which we reported yesterday has arrived in Nassau and is currently onsite assessing the 2nd Unit at BHPS. This unit had already entered the testing stage prior to commissioning when a new setback arose requiring the intervention of a specialist. As noted, that individual is assessing the unit at BHPS now, even as a second specialist continues to assess the 1st Unit.

Work on both units had entered the testing stages early this week after around-the-clock effort from the local and international team in preparation for commissioning the units and returning them to service. New, unforeseen problems have arisen with each unit over the past two days, however, and as we noted in yesterday’s update, we have been forced to reassess our timelines.

We therefore intend to issue the daily fact sheet later this evening with updates after the specialists have had adequate time onsite at BHPS.
