TCHTA Tourism Strategic Plan uncorks the bottle on tourism wins and woes; reveals five strategic goals to guide until 2022

#Providenciales, August 20, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The story of the growth in tourism for the Turks and Caicos Islands is an astounding one.  In ten years, the destination has managed to flourish fantastically from 150,000 long stay visitors per year in the year 2000 to over 450,000 in 2016 as recorded by the TCI Department of Statistics.

This data and more is captured in the recently unveiled Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association 2017-2022 Strategic Plan.

The TCHTA is a busy, booming body of relentless professionals in an equally burgeoning destination, yet, its parent affiliate the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association is calling on the Turks and Caicos chapter to review its situation and to guide it, strategically.

In March 2019, when the newly elected executive was introduced, there was the announcement that outgoing president, Nikheel Advani had prepared the Strategic Plan document and that the incoming president, Todd Foss with his new team would begin to share it. 

Well on June 13, 2019, they did.

Media was presented an advanced peek of an electronic copy and then the vivid booklet highlighting, among other things the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the country’s leading industry:  Tourism.

The public, via the media, also learned of the five strategic goals of the TCHTA based on “qualitative and quantitative data collected” during regular meetings of the 101 allied members and 49 hotel members.

The TCHTA five strategic goals are detailed under the headings of: Advocacy, Education, Sustainable Tourism, Financial Stability and Challenge Management.

When it comes to what this organization wants to look like, feel like, function like by 2022…

“A strong profile for the organization, primarily focused on effective advocacy positions; an engaged and empowered membership base; meaningful and valued membership programs that enable business success and a financially stable organization with a diverse revenue stream.”

Almost 100 percent of what the TCHTA aims to do will begin in 2019. 

Quarterly meetings, A whitepaper on the TCHTA’s position on issues affecting the industry, increased sharing of TCHTA’s positions with membership on issues affecting the industry, a stronger presence in the schools, greater student participation in TCHTA initiatives including reusable bags and educational sessions with students are all on the 2019 agenda. 

Additionally, this year, the TCHTA plans to boost its reporting to the DECR, run quarterly audits on its financials as a good governance measure and the plan is to reactivate TCI Cares in partnership with the TCI Tourist Board.
