TCI: Prosecutions for July 2019 by Immigration Department

#Providenciales, July 29, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Immigration Department is pleased to inform the public that it has successfully prosecuted fifty seven (57) cases for this year and that for the month of July 2019 alone, Officers within the Enforcement Unit with support from the Office of Public Prosecutions have successfully obtained from the following charges:

  • Remaining in the Island beyond the permitted time
  • Engaging in gainful occupation
  • Unlawful entry
  • Possession of forged documents
  • Returning to the Islands contrary to the deportation order  
  • Returning to the islands while being on the Stop List of the Turks and Caicos Islands

These prosecutions are part of the Departments enforcement mandate to better protect the borders of these Islands and to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.

These activities are also part of the key programme strategies of the Department’s 2019/20 Budget which is to engender a strong focus on prosecutions and intelligence.

Last year the Department successfully prosecuted eighty seven (87) varied cases including harbouring, Unlawfully employing person, Assisting illegal entry and Obstruction and Assault of an Immigration Officer.

The Minister and Ministry would like to thank the Department and in particular the front line staff of the Enforcement Unit, for their dedicated and steady efforts in enforcement and pledge their support to resource the Department to better achieve its objective.
