#Providenciales, July 1, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – A 26-year-old man is facing charges after reports of an assault on a Police Officer early Sunday June 30th, 2019.

The 26-year-old man was arrested and formally charged on Sunday June 30th, 2019 with Malicious Injuries to Property and Common Assault. He was later released on US$5000.00 bail and is scheduled to appear in the Magistrate Court on August 9th, 2019.

Commissioner of Police Mr. James Smith said, “There are no circumstances when an assault on a member of the Police Force is acceptable, whether my officers are in plain clothes or uniform. My officers do a difficult job and each and every one of them are important to me. I will do everything to protect them. This incident is unacceptable; let us not make this the norm in our communities”.

Commissioner Smith added, “This serves as a stark reminder of the possible dangers that police face every day.  I would like everyone to know that if you assault or try to harm anyone of my officers, you will be arrested”.
