#Providenciales, July 12, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Employees from Beaches Turks
and Caicos completed a six week Autism workshop as the resort aims to become a
level II Advanced Certified Autism Center from the International Board of
Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
146 employees who have direct
interaction with resort guests including Kids Camp, Entertainment and front of
house team received in-depth autism training as part of the brand’s efforts to
provide a true inclusive experience to all guests.
The robust training was led by
the resort’s Learning and Development department and featured training modules
from IBCCES on Autism, Anxiety, ADHD, identifying autism, interacting with
children with autism and tools to support children on the spectrum.
In 2017, Beaches Resorts became
the first brand in the world to be named an Autism Certified Autism Center
(ACAC). The ACAC designation is the next level of certification once an
organization has achieved the CAC certification. It underscores that the organization
has gone above and beyond to train its staff and provide substantial
modifications for visitors with autism or similar sensory needs, and
designations are granted by the IBCCES.
Julianna Musgrove, Learning and
Development Manager said the resort recognizes the importance of educating team
members of Autism Spectrum Disorder to maintain an inclusive environment for
all our guests and team members.
Musgrove commented, “The
information was also very transformative for the lives of our employees who
have children on the spectrum. Altogether, I am extremely gratified having
facilitated this course, knowing that it has already led to a transformation in
our employees and an increased awareness for the overall inclusiveness of all
our guests. ”
Musgrove said the training was
extended to other key areas, including the Human Resources Department and
senior management, as we aim to create the same inclusive environment for our
employees who are on the spectrum. Each person who attends the training will be
Autism Certified through IBCCES.
Shamara Pompey of the Kitchen
Department said the training was very personal for her and revealed information
she will use in the workplace and at home, “As a parent with a child who is
autistic, the Autism training helps me to be able to understand him better and
other children with Autism. It was a very informational workshop and I look
forward to applying that knowledge.”
Beaches is expected to receive the certification this summer.
