#Providenciales, July 15, 2019 – Turks and CaicosMThe Minister of Tourism, Environment, Heritage, Maritime, Gaming and Disaster Management, Honorable Ralph Higgs accompanied by Ministry personnel including staff of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies visited shelters on the islands of North and Middle Caicos as well as Providenciales during the week of 8thJuly.

The purpose of these site visits was to assess the state of readiness of the shelters and to identify additional resources needed. This is the second tour by the Hon. Higgs since assuming the department of Disaster Management earlier in the year, the visits were completed across the islands.  This assessment is important as we enter into the peak of the hurricane season.

Hon. Higgs commented; “I am pleased to have officially conducted two shelter tours, it is important for us to take account of the state of readiness of our shelters in our islands, which is important, particularly among persons that are most vulnerable to the impact of natural disasters.”

The general public is reminded to be aware of all shelter locations and to take inventory of their states of readiness as we prepare for this hurricane season.
