News of fees increase is false says RBC Royal Bank of Canada
#Toronto,June 3, 2019 – Canada – Earlier, a news outlet in Dominica posted an article entitled “RBC Royal Bank of Canada to increase fees on certain services.”
In response, RBC issued the following statement: “The article posted by Dominica News Online is based on a television broadcast which aired on TV6 Trinidad and Tobago in 2016 – over three years ago. To present this as current news is false, misleading, and a disservice to the residents of Dominica.
“RBC Royal Bank requested that a retraction and correction notice be issued by Dominica News Online. Until such retraction is issued, we are asking all other outlets to continue to exercise their usual journalistic due diligence when reporting on serious issues, and to not issue stories based on false information.”
Magnetic Media had received the ‘false’ report on social media. The above statement was issued in response to our questions about whether hikes in rates were due to take effect on May 31, 2019.
