#Providenciales, June 14, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – In preparation for the 2019
Atlantic Hurricane season, the Sandals Foundation partnered with the resort’s
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Team to host a fun-filled ‘Let’s Get
Ready’ hurricane preparedness seminar for over 120 local youngsters from the
Ianthe Pratt Primary School.
The enthusiastic group students
all gathered at the resort’s Caribbean Village conference room for an
interactive Hurricane Preparedness exercise with EHS Manager, Shuntel Gibson
and also got an exclusive screening of Sesame Street’s ‘Let’s Get Ready’
Emergency Preparedness educational program, which featured furry friends
favorites Grover and Rosita, as they too prepare for their own families for
emergencies through song, dance, and games.
“This is an annual event for
Beaches, the EHS Department and the Sandals Foundation,” said Elanor
Krzanowski, Communications and Public Relations Manager for the Resort, “We are
always looking to educate students on easy ways to prepare both mentally and
physically for all emergencies including Hurricane, and it is important that we
deliver this information in the most fun and interactive way possible.”
Shuntel Gibson, who led the
theoretical part of the event, said that this seminar is a great initiative for
student as it prepares them for all emergencies. “We are happy to partner with
the Sandals Foundation team on this initiative. The kids were brilliant
and knew a lot of the preparedness tips we taught, and it is our hope that they
take this information home to their parents to ensure they are all safe during
a storm.”
The event was aimed at increasing
hurricane awareness and improving readiness for students. Students were
taught about the various types of hurricanes, flooding, and list hurricane
shelters that are available in their communities. It is the goal of the
resort and the foundation that this information is taken to their home and
their community.
Second-grader Willisha Eugene
said that it was good to see the Sesame Street characters and to learn what to
do in a hurricane, “Now I know what to do to help keep myself, my family and
friends, safe during a storm.” She said, “I enjoyed the event. Now I can
share what I learn with my younger brother and sister on how to stay safe.”
The ‘Let’s Get Ready’ hurricane preparedness seminar is the first of many interactive lessons the Sandals Foundation, in collaboration with Sesame Street Workshop.
