#Nassau, June 6, 2019 – Bahamas – The Cabinet Office announced that Brian M. Moree, QC, will be the Chief Justice of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with effect from 12 June 2019.
In a
press release, the Cabinet Office stated that in accordance with Article 94 (1)
of the Constitution of The Bahamas, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert A.
Minnis, ON, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition, has advised
Her Excellency the Governor General, the Most Hon. Dame Marguerite Pindling,
ON, GCMG, to appoint Mr. Brian M. Moree, QC, as Chief Justice of the
Commonwealth of The Bahamas with effect from 12 June 2019.
Mr.
Moree is Senior Partner of McKinney, Bancroft and Hughes, Counsel and
Attorneys-at-Law, Nassau; Head of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Practice Area, and the Financial Services & Regulation Practice Area.
He has
served in the Judiciary in various capacities since his admission to The
Bahamas Bar in 1979. Mr. Moree has also served on various boards,
committees and commissions.
As one
of his many achievements, Mr. Moree was named in 2007 as the ‘Executive of the
Year’ by the Bahamas Financial Services Board in recognition of contribution to
the Financial Services Industry in The Bahamas.
His
areas of practice include: Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Trust and
Private Client matters, Banking and Commercial law, Insurance, Insolvency and
Bankruptcy, Financial Services and Regulation, Asset Recovery and Fraud, and
Cross Border Cases; with regular appearance at all levels including Court of
Appeal and the Privy Council.
