#Providenciales, June 13, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Nominations for the Progressive National Party’s General Election team for the 2020 race were opened and closed in May; party leader Washington Misick yesterday confirmed that 22 people expressed interest in candidacy for the PNP.

Party Leader, Hon Washington Misick led a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Providenciales and thrilled supporters in the audience with news that nearly two dozen individuals believe in the PNP brand of political leadership.

The PNP Chairman, Calvin Green invited applicants early last month giving the deadline as May 31, 2019.

During the press conference Opposition Leader, Washington Misick shared that the big reveal of who makes up the list of potential candidates will come on the PNP’s own, ‘Super Tuesday’.

“Names cannot be announced yet because we do not know who is going to emerge as the candidates for those seats,” Hon Misick continued with, “There is no other party in this country that has this process and that is why we are giving it from the end of May until September 10.”

Candidate selections are made at the constituency level, when party members ratify their choice by voting for the man or woman whom they feel would best represent the PNP in a General Election.

“So Super Tuesday you will know and we want all of those persons who have put their names up; if you want to be elected you have to start the work now.  You have to go to you constituency encourage persons to vote – find out those persons who have membership of the party and can vote – because it is a contest.”

Constitutionally in the Turks and Caicos Islands, each political party is permitted to enter 15 eligible voters as members or candidates for the General Election, which is held every four years.
