#Providenciales, June 11, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Five cars from the Turks and Caicos Islands completing the Sol Rally Barbados is a big deal according to the team of drivers and supporters returning home last week.  Now, that feat is driving the momentum to add even more drivers, more cars and more islanders enter to the sport of motor racing.

“We’ve got a lot of talent here, there is a lot of talent in TCI and we are going to teach that talent to do what we do and move forward in this country to have great drivers and great people doing this sport and other motor sports events.” Said Paul Horton, who this year competed in his 10th rally.

Horton explained that talks are already on with the TCI Department of Sports about expanding the membership of the TCI Motoring Club to the youth.

“It is a great thing for the islands.  Motorsports is a great learning curve for everything and we need to promote it, government needs to promote it and help us get to where we need to get and be like Barbados and all the other Caribbean islands that promote motorsports throughout the islands.  Just like Trinidad and Tobago do, just like Barbados does, just like Jamaica does. We are just the same.”

Amidst the crush of fans and media welcoming TeamTCI back home last Tuesday June 4, were two representatives from the Department of Sports.  Director Jarrett Forbes and Sports Officer, Alvin Parker.

“We are definitely very excited about this accomplishment of the Motor Sports Club and we met with Paul a couple of months ago about starting the association, so it is fitting that you guys brought the trophy back home.  So now we have to expedite those discussions,” said Jarrett Forbes in congratulating the group and confirming that promotion of the sport is endorsed at the government level.

“Just like any other sport, there is a tremendous opportunity so definitely we are really excited about the progress this group is making and we are looking forward to the big things for motor sports in the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

Turks and Caicos won six prizes at the 30th Sol Rally Barbados held May 31-June 2, 2019.
